In this blog we are going to tell you a little bit about Lithuania, our culture and differences between Lithuania and other countries.

A little bit about people in Lithuania

  • The family is the centre of the social structure.
  • The Catholic Church has great influence on daily life.
  • The most common greeting is the handshake, with direct eye contact, and a smile.
  • If you are invited to a Lithuanian's homelike a guest, bring wine, flowers, or sweets to the hostess.
  • Lithuanians speak softly and  people are really helpfull, when you ask for help.

Our advice for those who think about visiting Lithuania

If you're planning to visit Lithuania- relax. People in our country are pretty chill and friendly. A lot of Lithuanians like when people from other countries can say a few words in Lithuanian. For us it looks very nice. In our opinion, if you're going to Lithuania you should know a few languages. The most popular ones in Lithuania are Russian and English, if you know one of them you are not going to get lost.

What to wear in different places

In school you have to wear uniform. If you are going to the cinema or anywhere where you can spend your free time, you usually have to wear something a little bit more dressy, becouse people aren't very nice. If you would'n dress nicely people would think that you  are poor and they'll laugh at you. If you're a bussnes man you have to wear official outfits, usually a suit and a tie.

How to eat?

People in Lithuania are eating with cutlery. Favourite traditional Lithuanian dishes are cold soup Šaltibarščiai, and hot meal Cepelinai. Some people before eating pray.

How to greet people

In Lithuania we say labas when we greet people, in English it means hello. Sometimes we say good morning (labas rytas ). Sometimes lithuanians hug each other. We greet each other pretty basic, like allmost everyone else in the world.

How to talk to people off the opposite sex?

In Lithuania man and women can talk without any rules. Here in Lithuania we don't have any rules or traditions that doesn't allow you to talk to people from opposite sex. In Lithuania man and women are pretty friendly to each other.

Differences between Lithuanian people and people from other countries.

People in Italy are more friendly and more talkative. Their traditional dishes are a bit different from Lithuanian ones. It is warm in Italy, so they wear light and casual clothes. In my opinion, their language is very difficult. Italy is really different from Lithuania.
